Greg has been involved in the development and implementation of a number of programs which have proven to be highly beneficial to the citizens of Alameda County, including the Youth and Family Services Bureau, Drug Education and Enforcement programs, Cold Case DNA Unit, D.U.I. Enforcement Unit, and Coordinator of the Strategic Planning process for the future health of the organization.

Alameda County Sheriffs Office- Greg Ahern

On January 8th, Greg Ahern was sworn in as the 22nd Sheriff of Alameda County. Sheriff Ahern continues to be involved in strategic planning and the development and implementation of a number of programs which have proven to be highly beneficial to the citizens of Alameda County. Programs include the Youth and Family Services Bureau, Drug Education and Enforcement programs, Cold Case DNA Unit, D.U.I. Enforcement Unit, and Coordinator of the Strategic Planning process for the future health of the organization.

I am very honored to be in the greatest profession and proud to lead one of the largest Sheriff Offices in the United States- The Alameda County Sheriff's Office. The men and women in the Alameda County Sheriff Department our the finest in their profession.

As a proud 27-year veteran of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. I joined the Alameda County Sheriff's Office in 1980. I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1986, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2000, promoted to the rank of Captain in 2003, promoted to the rank of Commander in May of 2005, promoted to Assistant Sheriff in June of 2006 and sworn in as Sheriff in Jan 2007. I have been a resident of Alameda County my entire life. I have served twenty-seven years as a member of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. During my progression through increasingly responsible positions and assignments, I have always strived for excellence. I have been actively involved in the development and implementations of a number of programs which have proven to be highly beneficial to the citizens of Alameda County. These programs include the Youth and Family Services Bureau, Drug Educations and Enforcement programs, Cold Case DNA Unit, Driving Under the Influence Enforcement Unit, and coordinator of the Strategic Planning process for the future health of the organization.
